Hygge–pronounced “hue-gah”–is a Danish word used to refer to a cozy, content, warm state of mind. Whether you’re home alone or with friends, doing something extra special or ordinary, at home or out and about– it doesn’t matter. Hygge is something you feel within yourself when all is right with the world.
Sounds amazing right? We think so too. Incorporating this concept into everyday life, to always feel that warm, cozy feeling would be the dream. Bringing hygge into your home is more than just following trends, it’s about feeling at peace and content with yourself and your surroundings. If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that your home should always make you feel calm and peaceful. It should be a place where you can come home and relax after a long day.
At Wallaroo’s, we don’t just dig the hygge vibes, we embody the ideals and concepts behind it as well. We understand the importance of feeling cozy and content in your home, and strive to offer those same vibes in the store, and with all of our products.
In order to truly embrace a hygge lifestyle, some things are up to you, since your surroundings can only do so much. Sure, you can wear cashmere socks and sit by a crackling fire, but it’s the feelings those things bring you that truly represent hygge. So keeping that in mind, we’ll give you our best tips for bringing a little hygge into your home to harness those vibes! Here are four ways you can hygge your home by shopping with us here at Wallaroo’s!
To start off our Hygge Your Home checklist, we have to include one of our favorite sofas, The Bliss sectional sofa. This sectional is modular, with three different pieces available: a corner piece, an armless piece, and an ottoman. It can be configured in many different ways in order to accommodate any room. The Bliss is a simple, classic, linen sofa. It’s soft and comfy–blissful even. With its clean, classic design it’s very chic, but the style does not outweigh the comfort. Lounging around on the Bliss just makes you want to stay there all day with a cup of hot cocoa, a cozy blanket, and a good book!
Next up we have a newbie! The Aruba oversized living room set is quite possibly the softest, comfiest furniture in the entire world. We also refer to it as our oversized set. The chair is technically a chair and a half, and the loveseat and sofa are both extra-wide and deep-seated. With a blanket soft, chenille microfiber upholstery, this set is ultra cozy and so easy to just sink into and never get back up (in a good way).
While we’re on the topic of the Aruba, we have to mention the Barbados oversized luxury sectional sofa! The Barbados is the Aruba’s big sister and is a sectional rather than a 3-2-1 set! With all the same upholstery, deep-seated comfortability and coziness, these two are a perfect pair. If you love the Aruba, but are looking for a sectional instead, The Barbados will be right up your alley.
If you ask a Danish person what the first thing that comes to mind when they think hygge, many will say “candles”. There’s really no surprise there, candles go hand in hand with cozy, warm feelings! We also sell Anchored Northwest Candles at our Spokane-South Division store! So if you’re on the hunt to hygge your home, Wallaroo’s is your one-stop shop for all things hygge!
The concept of hygge is pretty interesting when you compare it to the aesthetic that normally accompanies it. Hygge itself is a very opulent, indulgent, extravagant thing in the types of emotions and feelings that are evoked. In contrast, typical Danish fashion and the design aesthetics that are frequently considered ‘hygge’ are very simple and classic. Wallaroo’s business model is wrapped around a similar concept. We build our business around leaning into the trends, whatever they may be, and supplying high quality, beautiful pieces of furniture for a price that is achievable for everybody. The same way the idea of hygge and the execution are contrasting, we are too.
